	History and Family 1870     The Ugarte family has tended its own vineyards and made its own wines in San Vicente de la Sonsierra since 1870. Even back then, its wines were well-known and highly regarded throughout the region. The family's know-how is passed down through the generations, and it is in its third generation when Anastasio Jesús Victorino Eguren Ugarte, the founder of Heredad Ugarte, was born in 1933. On the strength of the long-standing family tradition, he becomes drawn to winegrowing and from an early age decides to take on the challenge of making and selling fine Rioja wines.
